Dog Poop

In my house we call El Husbee "The Poo Slave".  I am not sure how this all started but it's pretty funny.  He will tell you that I never pick up poop.  In my defense, I picked up poop everyday the first year of Khloe the pup's life.  After year one I cannot vouch for myself.

After seeing this poster I have a very different view about poop.  I for sure don't want Khloe the pup getting sick and I for sure do not want to get sick.  AND I hate flies.  So I am going to work a lot harder on picking up poop.

Pupcakes ... Happy 3rd birthday Khloe

This post is about 3 months late ... but I thought better late than never.  Khloe the pup turned 3 this year.  Time passes fast.

Seems like just yesterday I was taking home a little black and white pup home from the animal shelter.

This year is no exception from all the other birthdays.  Khloe the pup got toys, treats, and pup cake.

I wonder what goes though her head as we sing happy birthday to her.

Khloe the pup is always so serious when there is food involved.  It makes taking pictures so hard.

Oh how I love this fur ball.

I make her pup cake because in this economy it is hard to find a place that makes cakes for dogs anymore.  But with the internet and Pinterest it's not too hard finding a recipe.

Khloe the pup seems to really enjoy her pup cake.  Baking my own pup cakes also makes me feel good because I know what she is eating.

Not one crumb was left behind.  This recipe is a keeper and easy to make.

Peanut Butter Delight Pupcakes
Adapted from Sweet Pea's Kitchen

Ingredients:
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 cup shredded carrots
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup honey
1 egg

Directions:
1.  Preheat oven to 350F.  Line muffin cups with liners.
2.  Whisk together flour and baking soda.
3.  Add remaining ingredients and mix well.
4.  Fill prepared muffin cups 3/4 full or use ice cream scooper (makes about 6 pupcakes)
5.  Bake for about 18-20 minutes or until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.

I love my fur baby and enjoy spoiling her.

Barkbox

Khloe the pup is quite spoiled.  But I am not too bothered by this because since I currently have no human baby, she is my fur baby.  I heart my dog.

I first heard of Barkbox on Instagram.  I was checking out pictures of other border collies when I noticed one dog had a Barkbox.  Of course curious me had to go check it out and do some research.  Turns out Barkbox is a lot like Birchbox or many of the other monthly subscription boxes.  Each month Barkbox mails out a box of goodies to their subscribers containing toys, treats, and/or grooming products.

So after consulting El Hubby, I signed Khloe up for a Barkbox subscription.  So far Khloe has received 3 Barkboxes and we have been very happy with them.  The products all seem to be made in the USA.  The treats are usually of the organic nature.  Last month there was a treat that both humans and dogs could enjoy.  El Hubby ate it and said it was bland but peanut buttery.  Khloe has loved all the treats that she has received.  However, some of the toys have been hit and miss.  But since my Bestie has just recently adopted a dog, Khloe the pup will be sharing some of her many toys.  Sharing is caring.

Keep cooking and enjoying life!

Peanut Butter Delight Pupcakes

My fur baby turned 2 years old yesterday.  I can't believe how fast time flies.  It's been almost 2 years since El Hubby and I adopted the pup from the shelter.  I cannot imagine life without her.  Especially those moments when she just comes over to me and snuggles all on her own.  Can  you tell the fur baby has me wrapped around her little paw?

So of course I spoiled her and took her to doggy day camp and to get groomed.
She got new toys and her own pupcake.  Khloe's gammy would be proud of her new toys.  Her gammy always insist that the pup needs to be a vegetarian to live a long life (gammy says seafood is okay cause it's not meat cause it does not contain blood.  Gammy is a weird lady).  I think the lime is her favorite.

Peanut Butter Delight Pupcakes
From Sweet Pea's Kitchen

Ingredients:
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 cup shredded carrots
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup honey
1 egg

Directions:
1.  Preheat oven to 350F.  Line muffin cups with liners.
2.  Whisk together flour and baking soda.
3.  Add remaining ingredients and mix well.
4.  Fill prepared muffin cups 3/4 full or use ice cream scooper.
5.  Bake for about 18-20 minutes or until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.

The pupcake was super easy to make.  Also it's kind of nice knowing what exactly is in the food I am giving her.  I spread some cream cheese on the pupcake and decorated it with a biscuit.
The pup waited patiently as I took pictures before she could eat her pupcake.

Once the husband said the magical release word "okay" she tore into that pupcake.  Not lady like at all.  The pup is eating so fast that I can't even get the camera to focus.

Of course I had to make treats for the humans in her life.  Cupcakes for the humans.  These were nothing fancy.  Just a box devils food cupcake mix (yeesh sorry yes box cake), cream cheese frosting and a Scooby snack as decoration.
I hope my fur baby had a good birthday.  She sure was tired by the end of the night.

Keep baking friends and remember to show your loved ones that you love them everyday.

Khloe the d-o-g

I know for the last few months this blog has been dedicated to food and recipes.  However, I couldn't help but share this photo of my dog.  This is her reaction when I tell her that I am leaving for work this morning.

The husband and I have wanted a dog since we got married.  We had always imagined ourselves as dog people.  But when we got married we lived in a apartment that did not allow for dogs.  Once we purchased our house the search was on for a dog.  The husband and I probably went to the SPCA everyday that they were open in search of a dog.  In my head I imaged a cute black dog that I could name Reggie.  I have no idea why I wanted a black dog or why I wanted to name him Reggie.  But that is what I had my heart set on.  After months of looking and being disappointed I saw a picture of a black and white pup on the ARF website.  The website showed a link of a video of 5 black and white pups running around and playing.  I forwarded the link to my husband.  The next thing I know the husband sends me a message that he was going there after work.  He had already called and there was only 1 pup left in the litter.  The people at the shelter would hold the pup for him until the end of the day.  I was so excited all during work to see if this was the pup.  When I got to the shelter my husband was already filling out forms with this little barely 8 pound puppy in his lap.  I asked if there were any other cute puppies and without looking up at me he said "we are taking this little girl home".  I have never been this happy that I listened to my husband.  We took took this puppy home and named her Khloe.

I cannot imagine life without this dog now.  A year and 3 months after adopting Khloe and she has turned from a shy little shelter dog to the princess that runs my house.  I like to joke and say Khloe has a rags to riches story.

10th Annual Wiggle Waggle Walk

I am so excited to take Khloe to the 10th annual Wiggle Waggle Walk. It will be a great place for us to socialize her with other dogs. I wish I had heard about this earlier so I could sign up for the 5k run. Hopefully next year Khloe and I will register to run the 5k. If you haven't heard about the event check out out the website.

Oh and to top it off Clayton Clark is the MC for the event.

XOXO
